Middle School Choir &Willamina Concert Choir What is Middle School Choir?
Middle school choir is a music class designed for 7th an 8th grade students that wish to sing in an ensemble setting and learn fundamentals of vocal technique and music systems. Students will also learn rudimentary piano skills as a part of this course. Music is a unique art form and activity in that it engages both hemispheres of the brain, creativity and problem solving simultaneously. Studies have shown time and time again that band students score higher on tests that measure students' ability to demonstrate higher level analytical skills than students that have not been exposed to learning a musical instrument. Middle School Choir is available and encouraged for any rising 7th and 8th graders willing to work and learn! Willamina Concert Choir is a music class designed for High School students that wish to sing in an ensemble setting and learn fundamentals of vocal technique and music systems. Students will also learn rudimentary piano skills as a part of this course. Willamina Concert Choir is expected and encouraged for any returning Concert Choir students, Piano students and rising 9th graders that have successfully completed Middle School Choir. Winter Concert: December 8th, 6:00 pm WHS Cafeteria *Performers: please arrive no later than 5:30 in concert attire *Honor Choir: January 27th-28th, St. Helens High School Two Day Event This is an OPTIONAL auditioned only event for middle and high school choir students. If students would like to audition for Honor choir they must see Ms. Trapani outside of class for details about how to participate. District Choir Festival: March 14th, all-day event, Scappoose This is an in-school FREE field trip where all students will travel to perform for a panel of adjudicators. Details about this event will come as it approaches. Piano is an introductory music class that is designed for any students wishing to learn the fundamentals of music theory and rudimentary piano technique. Through this course students will collect different exercises and pieces that they will use to create their own personal method book. There are no required performances for this class; however, students are welcomed to request to perform on school scheduled concerts if they wish. Music is a unique art form and activity in that it engages both hemispheres of the brain, creativity and problem solving simultaneously. Studies have shown time and time again that band students score higher on tests that measure students' ability to demonstrate higher level analytical skills than students that have not been exposed to learning a musical instrument.
